Been going to the canteen for years. They’ve remodeled a bit and the parking lot is much better than it used to be before. Delicious food with very generous portions. The service was very good but not great… A little slow. No problem though… You’ll enjoy dining with model airplanes flying over your head!
This is a perfect spot for breakfast. Located in downtown Barrington, Canteen restaurant is the place to go for delicious briskets all day long. The food and service here is a 10/10. We tried the avocado toast with brisket & the smoked brisket with eggs. The brisket was absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked and I loved the smoky flavor. The Greek frappe iced coffee that was recommended by the host was amazing. I could have had two of those. The wait staff is so friendly and the restaurant has such good vibes. We were there for 2+hours and the staff checked on us often. I need to go back there asap and try other things on their menu
I ordered the El Diablo pulled pork sandwich. The pork had a delicate texture. It has a nice smoky scent; the amount of the pulled pork is quite generous. It was finished with coleslaw and pickle. It is presented in brioche buns. It has a zesty and sweet sauce. The sauce has a pleasant spice. I can't wait to return and sample more items from the menu.
This is a really great place for BBQ and breakfast food! There are unique breakfast meals that incorporate pulled chicken, pulled pork, brisket, eggs, etc. The meals are always great and the portions are plenty! The restaurant is also clean with a friendly atmosphere. My son ordered a twist on chicken and waffles, and they hit a homerun 🙂. I highly recommend checking out the Canteen! 😋
Canteen is a hidden gem tucked away in Barrington. They serve some of the best smoked meats in the area , seriously top-notch. The restaurant oozes old-world charm, with a cozy 1940s vibe, model fighter planes hanging from the ceiling, and vintage movie posters lining the walls. The food is unpretentious, delicately crafted, and full of flavor. I tried the brisket skillet it was absolutely fantastic. The pulled chicken practically melted in my mouth. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the whole experience feels thoughtfully curated. This place is a must-visit if you’re anywhere near the area.
I finally stopped after passing this place for years. This place is amazing... in all ways! Starting with the menu, soo many great choices, all kinds of great meats and BBQ. Brisket, pulled pork, corned beef.. and then there's breakfast. Bbq's and Benedicts... if you love diners, BBQ and Benedicts this is a must stop!
Stopped in at Canteen Restaurant and had a great experience. Our waitress was super friendly and gave us excellent recommendations. I got the brisket melt which was amazing, especially with the spicy BBQ sauce she brought over. My wife ordered the ribs with sauce on the side, they were perfectly cooked and she was thrilled. We’ll definitely be back!
Really happy I stopped in here today. The food was outstanding and definitely will be back. Had the 2 meat- brisket and burnt ends, with cole slaw and beans and the pork belly. Also added a jalapeño and cheddar hot link. While waiting for the order to be prepared, had a great conversation with Sam. What I took away from that conversation was that he loves what he does and is passionate about the food they serve. All of the food was terrific. The seasoning is solid and does not overpower the flavor of the meat. This place is a solid spot, serving great food in a neat restaurant. It is easy to see why they have been successful, and I would expect that success to continue.
We traveled out of our way because we had missed this dish from the previous years when we were up that way often. We went in the snow storm this weekend and had a very delicious plentyful pulled pork dish, especially moist in the Mahalo Benedict platter... had with poached eggs. On top was cheese, a mango salsa and pickled onions and balsamic drizzle on top of a crispy tortilla. Oh so good .. Yum 😋
I’ve been coming to the canteen for years. They have all the breakfast classics and great bbq. About a year ago I started eating keto and today I was pleasantly surprised to see a few keto dishes on the menu. I had the keto brisket breakfast. It was delicious, certainly going to go out of my way to make it here more often.
